Basking in the Barcelona Sun

The train ride from San Sebastian to Barcelona was incredible. We arrived in Barcelona by train around noon on Wednesday and easily found our hotel. We immediately got settled and went out to get the most of Barcelona. Our hotel was in a great neighborhood with a lot going on and the first thing we did was find something to eat. We sat down for the typical tapas and wine. Jordan and I still can't decide if we actually like the idea of tapas, small amounts of food that usually have meats that don't appeal to us. After our bite to eat we walked around getting lost and discovered some cool parks and streets for shopping. Jordan wanted to change into some shorts so we went to our hotel and looked up the directions to the large local market. It was about a 15 minute walk and was huge. There was so much fresh fruit, meats, veggies, nuts and basically any fresh produce. We really loved Barcelona, it was the most liveable city in our opinion. From the market we looked for dinner and found an American diner and could not resist. Jordan was so excited to have BBQ sauce for the first time in a month, I think it was his highlight of the day.

The next day we started early and walked to a nearby cafe for coffee and pastries for breakfast. The only tourist thing we wanted to see was the Sagrada Familia church and decided to walk there even though it was 40 minutes away because it was an absolutely beautiful day. It is one of the weirdest buildings we've seen on this trip, very cool. It looked extreamly unstable but had been around a long time. They were actually restoring it, so sadly it had some scaffolding on it. After lunch we wandered a different way home and ended up coming across the Triumphal Arch and scenic boulevard the comes up to it. We walked to the good shopping street again and Jordan ended up bargaining with the store clerk and somehow we walked away with two bags and a pair of boot heels for me. After we dropped them off at our hotel we stopped for a crêpe and gelato which we ate on our way to the beach. We started at the marina and walked along the water past shops, restaurants and many beaches. It was so relaxing and really made us realize how much we had has enjoyed all of Spain, even more than we though we would. We will definitely be going back one day. We walked until we knew we had had enough sum for one day. We found dinner on our way home and got Jordan his decongestants from the hotel because he had been under the weather the last day or two.

The next morning I let Jordan sleep in, hoping he could overcome his sinus cold. I went to a cafe and got us pastries and coffee to go. We ate breakfast in our room and relaxed the morning as we packed to leave. Once we checked out we walled with our bags to get lunch. After that we found Starbucks where we spent some some time on WiFi with coffee. We were flying out of Barcelona so we had to make our way to the airport via metro and train. The flight was quick and we landed in Amsterdam 2 hours later. We took the train to Rotterdam where we met up with mom and dad Oorebeek for the next part of our trip, a  Baltic cruise!
